Building a List of Subscribers
By Stephen Ng Kai
Online businesses know the importance of providing great service so that they're customers remained satisfied. This is because the more customers are satisfied with their service, the more likely they will be to return to the website in the future and make additional purchases. Satisfied customers can even generate more traffic by recommending your site to their friends, family and co-workers, who may buy from you as well.
A great way to maintain a strong list of potential customers is to offer your traffic the opportunity to subscribe to a mailing or opt-in list so that they can receive promotional materials, like newsletters and catalogs, as well as email updates about your website and the products or services you provide. Sent in different time intervals, the promotional materials can also be sent to subscribers via email.
You can eliminate high costs by creating your own promotional and marketing information and using email to send it out because it's free. Rather than being deleted before it's even opened, you can be assured that the materials you send out to subscribers of your list are most likely being read because the customer elected to sign up for the list and receive the information.
These promotional materials are constant reminders to your customers about improvements to your website, special offers or promotions and new products or services. If customers see something they really like, it's likely that they'll even forward the email on to people they know who, in turn, will probably visit your website as well. More traffic equals more customers.
If a subscriber isn't receiving the kind of information he or she expected to get, they should be able to unsubscribe without a hassle. In order to keep people excited about receiving your emails, you need to make sure they're satisfied with your marketing materials. Below are a few ways to ensure you're building a strong list of eager subscribers awaiting your emails.
-Use creativity to ensure that all your promotional and marketing materials are interesting, fun and entertaining, but don't make the information too artsy. Focus on creating materials that revolve around the product or service you're offering. For instance, a business selling car parts may include images of new technologies in the auto parts industry, like a special door that fits on any car to make it look like a high-end Lamborghini.
- To stay ahead of the trends, do research and find out what it is customers are looking for within your niche. Because you'll always have new products and services available that you know customers will want, they'll always be excited to receive the promotional material that describes these new, exciting things.
-Light but information articles are more likely to be read and enjoyed by your subscribers. If they enjoy the articles, they'll be more likely to visit your site so that they can read more articles similar to the one they just read in your newsletter or email. Write diverse articles that many people can relate to and include both humorous and informational material. If you don't like to write, you can hire professional article writers for a small fee who know what they're doing. They can provide several, well-written articles for your emails and, though you're spending a little money, you'll see a return in subscriptions and new customers.
-Choosing something that's related to your website or business and create a free e-book that revolves around that topic. Using your expertise on the subject to create a book that answers the questions of those interested in it is a great way to please subscribers and earn more customers. E-books can be any length and there are so many different things you can write about and different ways to offer the information. Used as a reference, the e-book could come in the form of a manual or guide that people can refer to constantly. Don't just share the e-book with your subscribers, but with other websites as well, as long as your sure that the links to your site listed within the e-book aren't altered in any way. Like your articles, you can hire professional writers to write the e-book. This is another investment well worth the money in the long run.
- Lastly, if you have special discounts or promotional offerings, include e-coupons in a newsletter to get customers excited about using them. Make sure there's a limit on the coupon so that it can only be used once. Customers who regularly receive e-coupons in their newsletters and use them will be even more eager to receive the next newsletter with more coupons.
If you keep updating your promotional materials and newsletters, customers will continue to be excited about receiving them. Always offer benefits to your subscribers but don't send out so many e-mails that they begin to get overwhelmed.

Hi Perry thanks for the comment, Mike Dillard offers a free system but Zookoca and feed burner offer basic management of e-mails/ subscribers - with advanced campaigns the IMC's Mailloop 6 has all the bits required or using Aweber or even just a spreadsheet and mailing list on your web service are also ways of managing contacts.
